Rickie’s Flamingo Cafe
Location: Grace Bay Beach
Ambiance: this is a bathing suit and shoes optional beach bar / cafe, operated by locals at a chilled out island pace - enjoy the view, the laid back attitude and consider a dip in the ocean in between drinks or better yet, bring your drink into the ocean
Best Bet for Live Music: most Fridays and Sundays from 5 to 8pm
Recent Lineup: Davonte Missick, Noel Browne, A+ Band, ‘Spanish Band’
Food & Drink: Beachside menu offering local food and bar snacks served on island time - if you go with some patience you will find some great meals at reasonable prices (for Grace Bay beach, this is unheard of!). For island specialties look for the grouper done 7 ways plus 2 sides ($22), curried shrimp ($22), cracked conch ($18), or a spicy jerk chicken wrap ($14). Otherwise for classic casual bites, they have chicken or fish fingers ($13/14), burgers (beef, chicken, fish, cheese), quesadillas or fajitas, and a few salads. With smoothies, affordable beers, rum punch and other simple but strong cocktails you might have to wait a bit, but you will leave quite satisfied (menu photos coming soon)
Happy Hour: no
Insider Tip #1: please bring cash to tip the servers and bar staff - you can pay for your meal with a card but you need cash to tip and once you meet Petey and the team you will want to leave a generous tip!
Insider Tip #2: Closed on Mondays but no worries, just walk next door to the Cabana Bar at Ocean Club East, or pack your own food and still enjoy the beach
Going to Rickie's is practically like saying you are headed to the beach. Shoes are optional and you can enjoy the ocean view from the tables or grab some cold beers and takeout and set up on the beach (beach chairs for hire too!). One of the few places on the beach run by locals - enjoy the laid back, truly island feel. Nothing moves that fast and that is the point. Check out some of the local vendors at the Cultural Market and enjoy the varying local musicians that pass through some afternoons and evenings.
